Surviving Winter- Seasonal Favourites

My pick of some of the seasonal products you can only get for a selected period of time-

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel

Ever since lush arrived in Liverpool I have bought this product it certainly appeals to your inner fairy! It's a very typical girly product, smells fabulous as you would expect from Lush and leaves a little trace of glitter.

Lush Santa Lip Scrub

This is a cola flavoured scrub, again smells and taste great also a fab product to fight against chapped lips.

Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Set

I bought a this set after testing the seasonal ones there was a choice between ginger, cranberry or vanilla. It is a very strong scent so I can imagine not something everyone would like but it does just remind me of christmas. The body butter means the scent lingers all day and is really nourishing, love it!

Surviving Winter- Some Essentials

Again apologies for another absence! But am back with my list of essentials for surviving winter.

It's a familar sight, it may not be here yet but winter is certainly upon us and I for one do not take it lying down! So below are some of my essentials for surviving the harsh conditions.

Lip Balm

I know a pretty obvious one and lip balm is an item I generally use all year round, as am sure most do however in the colder months I tend to step it up a notch with a more intensive product.
My favourite's are-

Maybelline Baby Lips

Carmex

Burt's Bees

Hand Lotion

Again I realise most people use this type of product regularly but I only find it a neccesity during the harsher months. My favourites are-
Body Shop Almond Hand & Nail Cream
Sanctuary Hand Cream

Body Scrub

Personally I can't get enough of body scrubs whatever the season, however again I tend to step-it-up a notch when it gets colder out. My favourites are-
Sanctuary Hot Sugar Scrub

This is a little piece of luxury in the cold snowy days, a lovely little warmer.

Soap&Glory Sugar Scrub

Body Butter

My usual beauty routine consists of daily use of body lotion and occasional use of body butter just as it is so thick but in winter the routine tends to swap over and it's body butter all the way. I think it's a great product for injecting much needed moisture after losing it battling the weather.
My favourites are-
Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter

This smells incredible!

Vaseline Cocoa Body Butter

Smoothing & Weather Resistant Hair Products

Depending on your hair type am sure different weather types do different things to your hair and certain products suit you better, but if you're anything like me winter weather plays havok with your barnet. Below are some of the products I use to calm and nourish my hair.
L'oreal Hair Oil

This is a fabulous multi-tasker, apply to dry hair to smooth, wet to heat protect or use as a mask.

John Frieda Over Night Serum

Lip Scrub

The saviour to chapped lips, which is something I suffer from terribly! I couldn't recommend buying one enough. Here are my favourites-
Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub

My personal favourite!

Body Shop Lipscuff

The Serious Stuff

Everyone knows winter is the prime time for catching cold/flu, ideally you'd take vitamins and supplements all year round to maintain a decent immune system but we're not all perfect, me especially so simpler ways to combat the germs are-

Soap&Glory Hand Maid

A good hand gel to fight the germs.

Orange Juice

I drink alot of juice anyway but the vitamin C in orange juice is a great way to boost your germ fighting abilities.

Wrap up

Stay warm, wrap up and drink warm drinks.

Appropraite Medicine

When you begin to feel under the weather or are beginning to catch something take the proper actions.

Hope you enjoyed!

Surviving Winter- Count Down To Christmas

Well, as of today it is 40 days till christmas and don't we know it maybe it's just me but am sure the adverts ascended on us even earlier this year! There's no escaping it, the shops are shoving seasonal offers down our necks aswell as supermarkets enticing us to christmas dinner dishes.
Sadly right now, at this very moment I am really not feeling festive, all this time of year means to me is everyone being sick with cold and abominably poor. Grinch!! I hear you cry but yes right now I am green, green with envy at those people who have already bought all the presents, arranged the dinner menu and still have money left over to start buying party wear.
That said there is a little spark of excitement, deep, deep down inside me it's a lovely time of year especially for a jumper loving, hot chocolate enthusiast like me.
After spending the day organising (or at least attempting to) presents and the financial crisis they carry, I think I might actually be able to handle this holiday lark.
So in reflection to any naive souls I say take heed!

Christmas Advice

If you haven't already started, start!
Begin by making lists, typical I know but if you stick to a defined list it can stop you overspending.
Research, does Nan really need another candle?
Gift reciept, always.
When you know what you want to buy, look around for the best price.

I'll be doing further posts on this subject so if you have any questions please submit and i'll try and cover it. Also do you have any tips yourselves?

Life Lately..

Sorry again for another lapse in posting! But this time I have a little something to show for it- The festive Rekorerlig has arrived and is my favourite flavour so I have been enjoying that lately. Next sadly as soon as the temperature drops I seem to be more susceptible to catching cold so I've been adding soup to my diet. I also went to see Ardal O'Hanlon at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, he was brilliant I loved his character in Faher Ted but really enjoyed his stand-up, would highly recommend! Finally I also went to see the new Thor film, I think it was better than the first and Tom Hiddleston plays Loki fabulously!

The Beauty Post- The October Review

First up is Barry M Vegas Mascara-
Honestly I only got this because I got it free at Boots but never look a gift horse in the mouth! However when it came to applying the product I found it slightly wet, it was very gloopy and the brush didn't seem to filter any excess away. You could tell it had seperated and thickened my lashes but for the awkwardness of application the end result isn't anything to wow about.

Next is L'Oreal Paris Skin Perfection Advanced Correcting Serum-
The claims of this product are to even out skin tone, improve texture and overall make skin appear in better condition. I have been using it twice a-day as recommended for a month now and honestly I can't really see a difference! The product is easy to apply, soaks in quickly and dries fabulously but it smells well odd, it's like a weird slightly gone-off chemical and if it was any stronger I wouldn't of been able to use it! I suffer from redness so when I read that this product helped improve colour I was excited but sadly it hasn't made a difference there. That said my texture does feel nicer, less bumpy and my forehead seems smoother. Still not a wow-er though.

Buy Again? If it goes the distance, yes.

Vaseline Limited Edition Paint The Town Red-
I was so excited when I saw this product out, I love vaseline I think for the price and it's multi-tasking qualities it's an essential. The product is supposed to give lips a red tint, sadly no tint! There was absolutely no colour difference to my lips and I was soo gutted :( That said it smells lovely and does give a little something extra to an otherwise everyday essential. The application is as easy and enjoyable as can be in a lip tin, I personally don't like applying sticky lip products with my fingers!

Buy Again- No, nice one off not a re-buy!

L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Eau De Teint-
This is the latest innovation from L'Oreal promising a new way to foundation with a natural effect and to glide on like water. More like you drown in it! The application for this was an utter nightmare I spilt some of it in the sink, splashed it on the worktop and ended up with remanants all over my hands! This product is not for the faint-hearted or clutzy. Once, eventually applied the product did even out and add a nice glow to my skin whilst still appearing like I wasn't wearing anything at all. Perfect for that au-natural look and if you don't like feeling weighed down by make-up.
Appliation-*

Buy Again- Not for me personally.

Barry M Matte Nail Paint in Vanilla-
After a bit of a disaster with the Topshop matte nail varnish I had rather been put off anything matte, but when I seen this colour I fell in love and thought I'd chance it again, and am so glad I did!

The colour is a lovely nude and reminds me of Parisan ladies in classy outfits sipping coffee's, tbh nude whether it be lips, nails or handbags makes me feel kinda old! In the nicest possible way it makes me feel grown up like when you were a kid and would put your mums heels on. Highly Recommned!

Buy Again- Definitely!

That's all my reviews done! If you have any questions or comments please share! :)

Student Survival Special- Final Words

Ok so apologies for being a bit M.I.A but being in a long distance relationship means when I do finally get to see him I tend to enter a little bubble and everything else gets neglected!

BUT! Back to my student special and this is my final post regarding the segment. Basically I just wanted to end with a few reflections, confessions and hopefully a bit of advice!

Well i've gabbed on about money, savings etc but I just wanted to mention a few incidents that tend to crop up during your time at university, obviously not all applicable so please don't thing am suggesting or generalisng everyones expereince.

1) Money crisis- I know i've already discussed this but some times there is the odd occasion when you've overspent and something economical comes along and you're completely out of pocket. Here's what you can do (please note not all options maybe applicable and I DO NOT ADVICE GETTING INTO MORE DEBT)  - Bank, if you already have a overdraft you can sometimes get an extended one
                                     - Bank of mum and dad
                                     - Go without, sacrafice nights out and luxuroius but never food!
                                     - University, some if not all are equiped to give out emergency funds.

2) Falling out with a Flatmate- Not everyone will get on all of the time, it's just not realistic, especially when 5 people have been thrown together randomly the odds are at least two are going to clash.  If you're in the middle and the arguement is between others try and avoid getting involved unless you strongly agree with one over the other, but if you prefer to avoid the aggro I'd highly recommend you just remain out of it and tell them to resolve it. If you are the one who is having an issue with another flat mate, then try to resolve the problem as clamly as possible the worst thing is to over-react and blow the situation out of proportion. Don't get others involve, too many cooks spoil the broth and too many in an arguement cause a war. If the situation is far too serious or drastic to resolve alone, contact your student services most are able to help in these circumstances, don't forget they've been doing it for years and have probably heard it all before.

On a side not I just want to confess, what began as a good laugh and fab time soon turned into the worst time of my life. In second year I hastily moved in with some people that turned into (well not to turn too nasty) but utter disasters. The situation I ended up with was a house infested with mice because people wouldn't clean or even bother throwing away rubbish, debt collectors chasing me and threatening me with legal action because same people wouldn't pay their share of the bill and a house that stank toppled with some serious uni work.
That said i'd just like to stress the importance of choosing who you move with in second year wisely. Most uni courses tend to step up a good notch in second year and the last thing you want is to come home from a long library sesh to a filthy house and rude housemates.

3) Issue with Course-mates- Sometimes during your course you maybe asked to work as a group, majority of the time this is fine, you're all on the course chances are you can work together maybe not get on but certainly figure out away of being compatible. That said sometimes you do get the odd one, that person who wants to sail threw by doing as little as possible. The best way to handle this is to try and be as hospitable as possible and try to accomodate them,  e.g. if they keep saying they can't do a certain time suggest an alternative. Ultimately, though if they continue to avoid the work and well take the piss contact your lecturer asap, you want the issue resolved asap so you can get on with your work.

4) Health Issue- Wether this be of the embarrasing nature or just a general upset, don't ignore it. You can discuss anything with a uni rep, and you should sign up to a local doctors and if a probles persits go see them!

5) Stuggling- Uni life is hard no matter what the stereotypes say; mounting work load, money worries and social issues can all make life difficult but you are not alone! Talk to your friends chances are they're feeling the same way and talking out your problems can really make you feel better. As previously mentioned the Uni is set up to offer advice and help. Sometimes a trip home or to a friends, just to get away for a little bit can really help make you feel better.

6) Homesickness- So you're in a situation that has took you away from home, introduced you to a whole new way of life and really thrown you in the deep end. And you drowning, DON"T PANIC! this is a perfectly normal feeling. My best advice is to try and stick it out, going home will only re-enforce your home-safety net but if you find a way of handling it the better you'll feel. However if you are really not feeling it, you might need to ask yourself if Uni is really right for you, hard as it maybe it is not for everyone. Don't think any less of yourself, you maybe able to work something out with the uni so that you can travel from home and still attend or otherwise help you work something else out.

That's all I can think of but I hope it was of some use! Any other queries or if you have any further advice please let me know!

Student Survival Guide- Satchel Essentials

Hi All, so as part of my student survival series I thought i'd include the things I always needed, this may vary depending on which course you're doing but I've tried to be as broad and inclusive as possible!

1) Any essential work and am not just talking about the stuff you definetly need because you have that seminar that day, think if there is anything you can take to work on in that 2 hour break you have.

2) A diary/organiser, this maybe the traditional hardback version or you may choose a more modern electronic format but I highly recommend a way of keeping track of assignments, exams and the social stuff too, it's also an incentive to plan things too.

3) Stationary, ok I know this is obvious but I always found having a nice pen to write with, highlighters and any other twee junk I could spend my money on did make me want to use it and so work more.

4) I.D, You never know when the next *cough* social occasion will be.

5) Purse, well duh I know, but with a planned budget just to keep in check.

6) Hand Gel, well I think i've already stressed the social aspect of University and I think freshers flu goes without mention, so you're meeting all these new people and not to be too crude but it's a breeding ground for bacteria, carrying round some ant-bacterial gel is one of the ultimate saviours in the fight against flu.

7) Student Card; security, discount, i.d and access to campus equipment, need I say more?

8) Post-it's, these came in so handy I cannot stress it enough; perfect for reminders, highlighting passages or adding onto existing notes.

That's all I could think of as 'essential', do you have any further tips?
