How to Spend 72 Hours in Lisbon

At the beginning of October we took a little trip to Lisbon, Portugal. I had never been to Portugal before or done a 'city break' abroad either.

The flight was relatively painless just under three hours and then a short tube ride until you reach the centre. Even though it was October the weather was beautiful in the mid 20's and only one day (the last) that was a little overcast. I don't think I could have handled going in the summer, the city seems maintains any warmth that hits it, plus the hustle and bustle of a city environment adds a wall of heat no matter where you are.

We stayed in an apartment which was near a tube station so getting around was very manageable. You can pick up an oyster like travel card and top up as you would London stylie.

One thing that was quite bizarre, food and drink venues were concentrated to a small amount of areas so whilst walking around you wouldn't really stumble upon anything which meant we really had to plan getting meals. For such a big city it was odd that these things were so sparse.

We managed to hit a lot of sites; Lisbon Cathedral, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Lisbon Zoo, Santa Justa Lift, Rossio Square, São Jorge Castle and the Pena Palace.

Getting around anywhere flat, firm walking shoes are a must, I took sandals and they never saw the light of day! Clothing wise loose fitting items, light colours and be weary of jeans, think city break but in the summer!

The food was beautiful if you're a fan of fish you're in luck and you HAVE to try the Pastéis de Nata a Portuguese egg custard, I had like two a day!

I also discovered my new favourite wine, Vino Verde its like a green sherbet tasting white, divine!
The red was also beautiful as was the port another must try, as well you know!

Budget wise we probably spent a total of £500 between two for apartment, flights, travel card, visitor attractions, food and booze!

I would definitely recommend as a must see place just be sure to take your flattest shoes!
